Invest NI is committed to achieving a successful economy in Northern Ireland which
will provide equal opportunities for all its citizens. It is fully mindful of its responsibilities across
the spectrum of Equality, New Targeting Social Need (NTSN) and Human Rights requirements and will fulfil
those responsibilities to the utmost within the organisation.
Invest
NI's predecessor agencies including, IDB, LEDU, IRTU, Business Support Division of DETI and the NITB,
have all been operating to the equality agenda and have highlighted this through the drawing up of equality
schemes (DETI's equality scheme has incorporated those of IDB and IRTU). Commitment within these existing
schemes will be taken forward as part of the remit of Invest NI until the new agency has fully developed
its own scheme.
In dealings with client customers and with all those
with whom it works, Invest NI will:
· develop and publish for public consultation
its own Equality Scheme during 2002;
· take ownership at all levels in
Invest NI of the statutory equality duty to promote equality of opportunity between: persons of different
religious belief; political opinion; racial group; age; marital status; sexual orientation; as well
as between men and women generally; persons with a disability and persons without; and between persons
with dependants and persons without;
· take a highly proactive approach
towards mainstreaming equality, NTSN and Human Rights considerations into its policies and programmes;
·
ensure that staff have a close knowledge and understanding of equality, NTSN and human rights issues
and that, in turn, they integrate that knowledge into day-to-day operating practices;
·
work, with other organisations where appropriate, to ensure that the best possible quantitative and
qualitative data is available and accessible so as to effectively monitor equality impacts; and · in
meeting equality and NTSN obligations, work closely with all key interests in the community
